The new deal was announced today in in Orlando at the international Wireless Global Congress organized by the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA).

Using exclusive technology, Sun Global’s strategically placed Wi-Fi antenna sites are designed to provide data coverage throughout outdoor locations everywhere from Diamond Head to Waikiki to Ala Moana and Ward Village. The company’s long-range network provides exceptional and continuous coverage for mobile users needing to access data, video, text and voice capabilities via their mobile devices in Waikiki and beyond.

Under the new deal, BT’s patented Wi-Fi roaming technology will be used to enhance the breadth of Sun Global’s network and will deliver an enhanced user experience to mobile customers, which takes advantage of the lower cost base of Wi-Fi. By allowing mobile users to roam over Sun Global’s network, visitors to the islands can take advantage of Wi-Fi calling, therefore avoiding high roaming charges for international calls made over the cellular network, as well as accessing data services over Wi-Fi, with comprehensive levels of security built in.

Edward Sun, founder and CEO of Sun Global, said: “Our new agreement with BT is just the latest enhancement to our network and proposition. The global scale of their operations, together with their technology leadership in fixed, mobile and wireless networking meant they were a natural choice of partner. We’ll continue to build strong relationships with telecommunications operators around the world as we seek to provide Hawaii residents and visitors with carrier-grade Wi-Fi services that expand connectivity options by offloading data from cellular networks.”

Alex Tempest, MD Wholesale Fixed and MVNO, BT, said: “BT’s innovative Wi-Fi roaming platform already supports millions of mobile subscribers in more than 30 countries across five continents. BT is a world leader in fixed and mobile networks and today’s landmark agreement with Sun Global Broadband demonstrates our commitment to bringing an enhanced mobile and wireless experience to operators and customers across all corners of the globe.”
